Control and status of echo

Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has come up with a solution for integrating an echo or dot so we can have native HS devices to have status and basic control?
Nothing too fancy, it would be nice to see if it's offline, playing music, or getting it to mute for a while, etc.
Using some web scraper for the Alexa webpage may work, just checking to see if some bright spark has already looked into it.......
