Moving from Qolsys / Alarm.com to HomeSeer

Hi Everyone,

We are seeking opinions and guidance as we consider our next step into automation.

So although I am new to HomeSeer and Z-Wave I have had some minor experience with X-10 several years ago. My wife and I have just purchased a new home that comes with a Qolsys / Z-Wave based alarm and automation system that runs on the 900mhz standard with services via Alarm.com. I know that this is not compatible with HomeSeer and I have no problem with that. One thing to note: we are in a gated community with security patrols so the alarm is much lower on our list of priorities.

We are looking to keep the interface on the Amazon Echo and/or Dot using the HomeSeer web interface only for configuration however I do have a 17” touch computer screen at my disposal but I am not interested in using tablets/Touch panels etc only voice.

Questions:
  • Can 2 completely separate 900mhz z-wave networks exists in the same home; one for the existing alarm and the other for HomeSeer (Fully understanding they will not communicate with each other and not share devices)
  • How well can HomeSeer operate as a sudo-security system.
Equipment / Devices we already have
  • Devon Heos
  • Samsung UN65JU6500FXZA TV
  • Amazon DotOur equipment:
  • GE Light switches (5)
  • GE Dimmer switches (3)
  • Logitech Harmony Smart Control
  • Complete set of Z-Wave door and windows sensors
  • 2 Z-Wave Motion sensors with still cameras
  • Roku 4
  • Synology 1815+ with SurveillanceStation for CCTV

Considering all of the above: What would you advise?

Thank you very much in advance for you feedback.

Cheers Eric
