controlling TV

Hey guys few questions

If I buy a tv with an ethernet jack can I control it like I do with my denon receiver via Ethernet with homeseer?

If not what do I need to control my tv. What do I need to buy and what plugin do I need.

Am I better off with a harmony hub and remote or another device that will convert IR to RF or wifi
